I often get messages from musicians around the world, asking me to listen to and review their music. As I get so many of these, I normally pick the pieces of music that really speak to me to cover on the blog. Today I will be looking at one of the songs that spoke to me, both musically and lyrically.

“Life Goes Fluently” is the debut single from English singer-songwriter Greysha (formerly known as Grace Keeling). At just 17 years of age, she has written and produced an excellent and powerful song reflecting on the meaning of life and the struggles of young minds.

Musically, the song has an indie rock vibe, heavy with guitar and bass guitar. It begins with the sound of pushing ‘record’ on a tape recorder and a high pitched sound, before moving to the catchy guitar riff. I really like the production of the song, it sounds very rustic and almost muffled, which makes sense as it was literally recorded and produced in Greysha’s bedroom. It really makes the song have a more personal feel to it.

I very much like Greysha’s voice, her tone and energy are fitted perfectly to the genre and to this song. She has an almost sultry tone, very smooth and powerful, it honestly reminds me of someone like Florence Welch. I also have to say that her vocals sound very mature for her age, if I didn’t know her age I would think she was much older! Overall, I really love Greysha’s voice and style, I can’t wait to hear her sing other songs in the future.

Several guitar licks move underneath Greysha’s vocals during the choruses, these are extremely welcome as is the solo section halfway through the song. It is not common anymore to hear guitar solos and licks during most modern music, so I’m not going to lie I was very excited to hear that in this song.

Although I think the production is excellent, I feel that this song really shines in its lyrical content. The song is almost a reassurance to young minds, that life has no answers and will continue to move on no matter what. It conveys this message through the story of young, broken love and teenage life in general.

Honestly the key meaning of this track hit me. This year, in particular, has been one of the hardest years for me (and probably everyone else in the world!). I’ve struggled with mental health, physical health, family issues, personal issues, and a quarter life crisis even. Listening to this song made me realise that all of this will be over soon, that life will keep on moving on, and that eventually it will flow into happiness and self-actualisation. I’m still coming to grips with this concept, but “Life Goes Fluently” gave me the push I needed to start thinking in this way.

Overall, I think this is a track that will resonate with almost everyone. Musically, it’s also very enjoyable to listen to and has some very catchy melodies that you will have in your head for a while! Greysha is an extremely talented young artist, and I will definitely be looking out for her future releases.
